Gevale Castle Visitor Center
Throughout its thousands of years of history, Gevale Castle has hosted many different civilizations, including the Phrygians, Hittites, Romans, Byzantines, the Anatolian Seljuk State, the Karamanids, and the Ottoman Empire. Excavations on the summit of Mount Takkeli have revealed layered settlement remains of Gevale Castle as well as small artifacts. Owing to its location as the highest point of Konya, Gevale Castle holds great strategic importance and also offers visitors a rewarding hiking route. It features rock-cut tombs from the Roman period, fortification walls and towers from the Byzantine era, as well as cisterns. To convey its historical heritage, unique landscape, and wealth of knowledge, the Gevale Castle Visitor Center is being constructed. The architectural curatorship of the project was carried out by HVL Studio. Following historical research and consultations with experts, the narrative of the visitor center was developed, and the spatial organization, circulation routes, and visitor scenarios were designed. In this project, HVL Studio undertook the curatorial content development and exhibition design.
